Hair regimen for natural hair

Maintaining Natural Afro-Textured Hair

A hair regimen is a regular hair care maintenance and protection programme. if you want to grow long, healthy hair a good regimen is essential. Find the products that work and stick to them but be mindful that there is no wonder product that will magically grow your hair – that takes patience and persistance! Below is a basic regimen:

Wash Hair Weekly

Use a shampoo that is sulfate and paraben free to avoid stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils  and wash hair in the shower rather than in the basin.

Deep Condition Weekly

Deep conditioning is key to maintaining healthy hair – go for moisture rich products and only choose protein conditioners after chemical treatments or if you have damaged hair.

 Use a Leave-In Conditioner

A leave-in after a deep condition will give your hair added nourishment. Here is a homemade recipe: 2tbsp of your favourite brand leave-in conditioner, 2tbsp aloe vera juice, 2tsp castor oil, 2 tsp jojoba oil (based on KimmayTube's leave-in recipe)

Seal in Moisture With Oils

After moisturising always seal with oils. I use one third shea butter, one third coconut oil and one third castor oil – all organic and unfrefined products without any additives.

Wear Protective Hairstyles

Wear a protective hairstyle during the day such as a bun, twists or any style where the ends are tucked in. If you are at home then better still keep your hair in braids or twists and cover with a satin scarf. Always wear a satin scarf or satin cap to bed at night.
